Kyle Larson cannot win a race.
That sentence still feels completely ridiculous.
But here we are.
Larson went out and led a race-high 99 laps at Darlington on Sunday.
Then he finished fifth.
Again.
Christopher Bell finally snapped his 33-race winless streak and took the Southern 500, while Larson extended his own bizarre drought to 51 races.
And somehow, Larson is still one of the most dangerous drivers in the entire championship.
That’s the scary part.
He isn’t running 25th.
He isn’t disappearing.
He’s constantly at the front.
He’s just not finishing first.
At Darlington, Larson even made the call to stay on the track during the late red-flag caution instead of taking fresh tires. He admitted afterward that he didn’t regret the decision, even though Bell immediately hunted him down after the restart.
So what happens when Larson finally gets one?
Because eventually, this has to end.
The defending Cup Series champion is still sitting right in the middle of the Chase fight.
And if Kyle Larson finally puts everything together?
That could be very bad news for everybody who spent the regular season celebrating his inability to win.
The scary version of Larson might be the one we’re about to get.
