BUDAPEST, Hungary — The FIA Formula 3 Championship reaches its penultimate round this weekend as the series heads to the Hungaroring for Round 9 of the 2026 season, the final event before the summer break. The weekend runs in support of the Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix and sets the stage for a pivotal championship battle entering the closing stretch of the season.
The weekend begins with Free Practice and Qualifying on Friday, followed by the Sprint Race on Saturday and the Feature Race on Sunday. As always in Formula 3, Friday’s qualifying session will determine both the Feature Race grid and the reverse-grid Sprint Race order for the top 12 qualifiers. The tight, technical Hungaroring places a premium on qualifying, as overtaking opportunities are traditionally limited.

The Hungaroring offers a sharp contrast to last weekend’s high-speed Spa-Francorchamps circuit.
Known as one of the most technical venues on the calendar, the 4.381-kilometer (2.722-mile) circuit features a series of medium- and slow-speed corners that reward precision, rhythm and tire conservation. Track position is often critical, making Friday’s qualifying session one of the most important of the season.
With only two rounds remaining after Hungary, every point carries added significance. Drivers will look to build momentum before the championship pauses for its summer break, with the season scheduled to resume later this year for the final push toward the FIA Formula 3 title.
