Formula 1’s newest race could be in line for a dramatic change after its debut, with organizers reportedly considering moving the Madrid Grand Prix to a night-time schedule for its second edition.
According to El Confidencial, the possibility of a night race is being discussed partly because of concerns about extreme heat affecting spectators. Madrid can experience intense temperatures, and moving the race to the evening could make attending the event a much more comfortable experience for fans.
However, the weather isn’t the only concern surrounding the new Grand Prix.
The Madrid circuit has also faced criticism over limited overtaking opportunities, raising questions about whether the track can consistently deliver the exciting racing Formula 1 fans expect. While the event brings a major new destination to the calendar, the quality of the on-track action will ultimately determine how it is received.
A night race could give Madrid a completely different atmosphere, create a more impressive spectacle for television audiences and help the event stand out among the many races on the F1 schedule.
Organizers could also look at potential circuit adjustments to improve overtaking and make the racing more competitive. Combining those changes with a later start time could give the Madrid Grand Prix a very different look for its second edition.
Nothing has been officially confirmed, and the night-race proposal remains under consideration.
Still, Formula 1 may already be preparing to make some major changes after just one race weekend in Madrid.
