Câmara Secures His First Formula 1 Seat

Rafael Câmara is officially heading to Formula 1 after signing a multi-year contract with TGR Haas F1 Team, securing his place on the grid for the 2027 season.

The 21-year-old Brazilian will replace Esteban Ocon, who is leaving Haas at the end of the 2026 campaign. Câmara’s promotion represents a major milestone in his career and rewards an impressive rise through the junior racing categories.

Haas announced the agreement on October 14, confirming that Câmara will make his Formula 1 debut with the American team next season. The move also gives the organization a young driver with significant potential as it continues building for the future.

From Formula 3 Champion to Formula 2 Contender

Câmara has quickly established himself as one of the most promising young drivers in motorsport.

In 2025, he won the FIA Formula 3 championship with Trident, demonstrating the consistency and speed needed to compete at the highest levels of junior racing. He moved to Formula 2 for the 2026 season with Invicta Racing and has continued to impress.

With two rounds remaining in the Formula 2 championship, Câmara leads the standings with 207 points. He has collected three feature-race victories, six podium finishes and five pole positions during his rookie campaign.

His performance has helped strengthen his reputation as a driver capable of making the jump to Formula 1 without spending several seasons developing in the lower categories.

Câmara has also been a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy since 2021, receiving support and development opportunities throughout his journey toward the top level of racing.

Haas Impressed by Câmara’s Potential

Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu praised Câmara’s performances in the junior categories and highlighted his ability to adapt quickly during a private test with the team in Portugal in August.

The test gave Haas an opportunity to evaluate Câmara’s speed, feedback and ability to work with engineers. His performance helped convince the team that he was ready for the challenge of Formula 1.

Câmara will join a team that has continued to invest in developing younger drivers. Haas has already seen the benefits of that approach with Oliver Bearman, who made his Formula 1 debut before joining the organization full-time.

The team believes Câmara has the potential to follow a similar path while bringing his own strengths and driving style to the lineup.

A New Chapter Begins in 2027

Câmara’s arrival marks an important change for Haas as it prepares for another Formula 1 season. Replacing an experienced driver like Ocon with a rookie represents a significant decision, but the team is clearly confident in Câmara’s long-term potential.

For the Brazilian, the immediate focus will be finishing his Formula 2 campaign strongly and preparing for the demands of Formula 1.

After winning the Formula 3 title and establishing himself as the leading contender in Formula 2, Câmara now has the opportunity he has worked toward throughout his career.

His next challenge will be translating that junior series success into results on motorsport’s biggest stage.
