Kyle Larson Is One Race Away From Cementing His NASCAR Legacy

Popular

Kyle Larson is one race away from adding another major accomplishment to his already impressive NASCAR career. The Hendrick Motorsports driver enters Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series Championship Race at Homestead-Miami Speedway in a position to capture his third career championship and become a back-to-back champion.

Larson has been outstanding throughout the 2026 postseason, turning himself into the clear championship favorite. After entering the Chase as the seventh seed, he has put together an incredible run that has separated him from the rest of the competition.

Larson Has Dominated the Chase

The No. 5 Chevrolet team has delivered when it matters most. Larson has collected three victories during the Chase, along with six top five finishes and eight top 10 results.

His biggest moment came at Talladega, where he pulled off a dramatic victory that helped create a significant points advantage. Even after a difficult afternoon at Phoenix, Larson bounced back and continued building his championship lead.

Now, he enters Homestead with a 67 point advantage over Christopher Bell and a 70 point lead over Denny Hamlin.

One More Race Stands in His Way

The championship situation heavily favors Larson. He needs just nine points at Homestead to clinch the title, regardless of what his competitors accomplish.

That means he does not necessarily need to win Sunday’s race. A finish of 28th or better without earning any stage points would be enough to secure the championship.

However, Larson will still want to compete for the victory. He won the most recent Cup race at Homestead in March 2025 and has shown plenty of speed at the track.

A Chance to Make History

Winning a third Cup Series championship would put Larson among an exclusive group of NASCAR champions. Capturing consecutive titles would make the accomplishment even more special.

Larson has already proven he belongs among the sport’s elite drivers. Now, he has an opportunity to strengthen that legacy.

One race remains, and Kyle Larson is in control of his championship destiny.
