Kyle Larson finally found Victory Lane again.
Larson won Sunday’s Enjoy Illinois 300 at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway.
The victory snapped a 51-race winless streak for the Hendrick Motorsports driver.
Larson held off teammate Alex Bowman in overtime to secure the win.
The margin was just 0.333 seconds.
It was the second race of the 2026 Chase.
It also completely reshaped the championship picture.
Chaos Defined the Afternoon
Gateway produced one of the wildest races of the season.
The race featured 18 cautions and 87 caution laps.
There were also 11 lead changes across the afternoon.
Drivers battled brake issues, crashes and constant restarts.
Larson managed the chaos better than anyone.
He led 80 laps across three different stints.
Joey Logano won the opening stage.
Larson answered by winning Stage 2.
Then he survived two overtime restarts to finish the job.
Hendrick Owns the Finish
Bowman followed Larson across the line for a Hendrick Motorsports 1-2 finish.
Logano finished third.
William Byron finished fourth, while Ross Chastain rounded out the top five.
Austin Dillon finished sixth.
Connor Zilisch and Carson Hocevar followed in seventh and eighth.
Denny Hamlin finished ninth, with Austin Cindric completing the top 10.
Larson entered Gateway needing a strong playoff performance.
He left with exactly that.
The win also vaulted him to second in the Chase standings.
Suddenly, the championship looks much different.
Larson Is Back
The 51-race drought is finally over.
More importantly, Larson looks like a championship threat again.
He won on a difficult, flat track against a stacked playoff field.
Now he heads into the next round with momentum.
That could be more important than the trophy itself.
