Christian Lundgaard Emerges as Leading Candidate for Chip Ganassi Racing Seat
Christian Lundgaard appears to be the favorite to land at Chip Ganassi Racing for the 2027 NTT IndyCar Series season after Arrow McLaren officially cleared the Danish driver to negotiate with other teams.
Arrow McLaren recently confirmed Lundgaard and Nolan Siegel will not return in 2027 as the organization reshapes its lineup around six-time series champion Scott Dixon, Felix Rosenqvist and returning star Pato O’Ward. The move immediately made Lundgaard one of the most sought-after free agents in the paddock.
With Dixon departing Chip Ganassi Racing after 24 seasons, the organization suddenly has one of the premier seats in IndyCar available. Lundgaard has quickly emerged as the driver most frequently linked to the No. 9 Honda, with multiple reports identifying him as the leading candidate.
The fit makes sense on paper.
Lundgaard, 24, has developed into one of IndyCar’s top road and street course drivers, earning three career victories while consistently running near the front since joining Arrow McLaren. The primary question surrounding his résumé remains his oval performance, but his overall pace and youth make him an attractive long-term option for Ganassi.
No agreement has been announced, and Chip Ganassi Racing has not confirmed its plans for the seat. However, with Lundgaard now free to sign elsewhere and the No. 9 entry opening after Dixon’s departure, speculation continues to build that the Dane could become Alex Palou’s newest teammate in 2027.
