Chase Briscoe’s NASCAR career could have taken a completely different path if not for one weekend at the Charlotte Roval.
Before the 2018 Charlotte Roval race, Briscoe admitted that he was almost certain his time with Ford was coming to an end.
Briscoe had spent much of the 2018 Xfinity Series season trying to prove he belonged at the next level. The results, however, weren’t where he wanted them to be, and heading into Charlotte, he believed his future with Ford was in serious doubt.
In an interview reflecting on that weekend, Briscoe said he was about 95% sure Ford was going to let him go.
Then everything changed.
Briscoe went out and won the inaugural Xfinity Series race at the Charlotte Roval, putting together one of the biggest performances of his young career at exactly the right time.
The win didn’t just give Briscoe his first Xfinity Series victory. It helped change the direction of his entire career.
Just days after the race, Briscoe learned that he would be moving into a full-time Xfinity Series ride with Stewart-Haas Racing for the 2019 season.
Instead of wondering where his next opportunity would come from, Briscoe suddenly had a clear path forward.
The timing made the win even more important. Had Briscoe struggled at the Roval, his NASCAR future could have looked very different.
Instead, he delivered when he needed it most.
Briscoe would go on to become one of the more recognizable young drivers in NASCAR, eventually making the jump to the Cup Series and earning his first Cup Series victory at Darlington in 2022.
Looking back, the 2018 Charlotte Roval race stands out as much more than just Briscoe’s first Xfinity win.
It was a turning point.
A driver who believed he was nearly out of a ride walked away from that weekend with a new opportunity and a future in NASCAR.
Sometimes, one race really can change everything.
