Carson Kvapil continues to heat up at exactly the right time.
The 23-year-old driver will lead the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series to the green flag Saturday night at World Wide Technology Raceway after capturing the pole position for the Nu Way 225. It marks Kvapil’s second consecutive pole after he also started first at Darlington last weekend.
Kvapil Delivers Another Fast Lap
Kvapil put together a blistering qualifying lap around the 1.25-mile Gateway oval, posting a time of 33.626 seconds at 133.825 mph.
That was enough to put the No. 1 Chevrolet at the front of the field for the second straight race. Jesse Love will start alongside Kvapil on the front row, while Sheldon Creed, Corey Day and Justin Allgaier round out the top five.
The performance is another sign that Kvapil has found serious speed as the championship battle begins to intensify.
Huge Opportunity In The Chase
The timing of this pole couldn’t be better.
Kvapil enters the Gateway race third in the O’Reilly Series standings, just 19 points behind championship leader Justin Allgaier. With the Chase underway, every stage point and finishing position becomes even more important.
Starting from the pole gives Kvapil an immediate advantage and a chance to control the race from the opening lap.
However, Gateway can be a difficult track to manage. Tire wear, restarts and pit strategy could all play major roles once the race gets underway.
Can Kvapil Turn The Pole Into A Win?
Now comes the biggest challenge.
Kvapil has the fastest car heading into Saturday night’s race, but he’ll need to stay out front for 180 laps to turn the qualifying performance into a victory.
With the championship fight heating up, a win at Gateway could completely change the momentum of the Chase.

And after taking consecutive poles, don’t be surprised if the No. 1 Chevrolet is once again battling for the checkered flag.
