Pierre Gasly on Pole at Monza in Saturday Stunner

Pierre Gasly made history, not just for himself, but for his team. He secured pole position at the 2026 Italian Grand Prix for the first time in his career.

The Frenchman’s pole position comes after a heated, ongoing battle over who got third in Monaco. Multiple teams have filed claims to the FIA in order to get results overturned, and ultimately left Gasly and Isack Hadjar in the mix.

During the race, he initially finished in third, but was given a time penalty for speeding in the pitlane (most drivers in the race were given one). After appeal after appeal, results were overturned not once, but twice. He was stripped of his podium once again.

This situation gave Gasly more fuel to succeed this weekend. In the practice sessions, Gasly came 14th in FP2 and improved to ninth in FP3.

During qualifying, both Alpine cars showed tremendous pace. Both Gasly and Franco Colapinto remained in the top ten throughout most of the session. At the end of Q2, Gasly had the fastest time. He took pole in Q3 by 0.06 seconds, narrowly edging out George Russell.

Gasly’s shown he’s strong in Monza. He got his maiden win at the Temple of Speed in 2020. He’s gotten six podiums in his career, and looks to get his second win in the same place he got his first.

The green flag in Monza waves at 9 a.m. but coverage begins at 7:50 a.m. EST on Apple TV.
