Weather Forces Major Schedule Change

NASCAR has made a major change to its weekend schedule at Charlotte Motor Speedway, postponing the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series Blue Cross NC 300 from Saturday to Sunday night because of expected heavy rain.

The race will now take place Sunday, October 11, at 8 p.m. Eastern, following the NASCAR Cup Series Bank of America 400, which is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. Eastern. The postponement creates a doubleheader at Charlotte and gives fans an additional race to watch during an already important weekend in the NASCAR postseason.

The weather also forced NASCAR to cancel practice and qualifying for the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series. Officials had moved the sessions earlier on Saturday in an attempt to avoid the incoming rain, but conditions ultimately prevented teams from getting on track.

Carson Kvapil Awarded the Pole

With qualifying canceled, NASCAR used its established starting-lineup formula to determine the field for Sunday’s race. Carson Kvapil will start from the pole position, giving the JR Motorsports driver an important advantage heading into the 300 mile event.

Kvapil enters the weekend looking to build on his strong performance at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, where he finished second to Corey Day. His consistency has kept him near the top of the championship battle, and starting first at Charlotte gives him another opportunity to make a statement.

Corey Day will join Kvapil on the front row, setting up an interesting battle between two drivers who finished first and second at Las Vegas. Jesse Love will start third, followed by Brent Crews in fourth and Sam Mayer in fifth.

A Challenging Race Ahead

Starting on the pole gives Kvapil a valuable opportunity, but the lack of practice creates additional uncertainty for the entire field. Teams will have to prepare for the race without the usual chance to evaluate their cars on the track and make adjustments based on real-world conditions.

Charlotte’s 1.5-mile oval places a premium on handling, speed and clean execution. With the O’Reilly Series race following the Cup Series event on Sunday, teams will also need to adjust to the revised schedule.

Championship Implications

With the postseason continuing, every position matters for drivers fighting to advance toward the championship. Kvapil has an opportunity to capitalize on his pole position, while Day and the rest of the field will be looking to challenge him from the opening laps.

The weather has changed the weekend, but the stakes remain high. Sunday night now sets up an important showdown at Charlotte, with Kvapil leading the field and hoping to turn the pole into a victory.
