Josh Berry’s NASCAR future is officially settled.
Legacy Motor Club announced Tuesday that Berry will join the organization for the 2027 NASCAR Cup Series season, taking over the No. 42 Toyota. Berry will replace John Hunter Nemechek, who was informed last week that he would not return to the team next season.
The move comes at an important point in Berry’s career. The 35-year-old driver learned earlier this year that Wood Brothers Racing would not retain him for 2027. At the time, Berry was struggling through a difficult season and was sitting 30th in the championship standings after 15 races.
Since then, however, Berry has completely changed the narrative.
Berry has put together six consecutive top-10 finishes, including a third-place run at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in August. He followed that up with another impressive performance at Darlington, finishing seventh in the Southern 500. That result extended his top-10 streak to six races and made him the first Wood Brothers driver since NASCAR Hall of Famer David Pearson in 1976 to accomplish the feat.
Now, Berry gets an opportunity to join a Legacy Motor Club organization that is continuing to build for the future.
“Legacy Motor Club is an organization that clearly has a vision for where they want to go, and I want to be part of that,” Berry said. “The way Jimmie has built this place — the people, the culture, the direction — it’s exactly the kind of environment I want to compete in.”
Berry already has experience with Legacy, making two Cup Series starts for the organization in 2023 before becoming a full-time Cup driver.
His career also includes a breakthrough victory at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in 2025, his first Cup Series win.
For Berry, the Legacy move represents more than simply finding another seat. After losing his ride with Wood Brothers, he has responded with arguably his best stretch of the 2026 season.
Now he gets the chance to carry that momentum into a new chapter with Legacy Motor Club.
Josh Berry isn’t going anywhere and after the way he has driven lately, he may have just found the perfect opportunity to prove his doubters wrong.
