Christopher Bell looked like a serious championship contender just a few weeks ago, but one disastrous afternoon at Talladega has completely changed his situation. Now, with only two races remaining in the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season, Bell faces a difficult challenge if he wants to fight his way back into championship contention.
The good news? His season is far from over.
Talladega Disaster Changes Everything
Bell entered Talladega sitting just five points behind Kyle Larson in the championship standings. Unfortunately, his afternoon quickly turned into a nightmare.
During a green-flag pit stop, Bell lost control entering pit road and slammed into the inside wall. The damage forced multiple trips to pit road, and he eventually finished 35th, 12 laps down.
That result dropped him to third in the standings, 74 points behind Larson. With the championship race approaching, Bell suddenly has very little room for error.
Martinsville Could Be His Biggest Opportunity
The next stop is Martinsville Speedway, where Bell will have an opportunity to begin rebuilding his championship hopes.
He will need a strong performance, and potentially a victory, to make up significant ground. The new Chase format rewards winning, meaning Bell cannot simply rely on consistent top-five finishes if he wants to close the gap.
Fortunately, he has a talented Joe Gibbs Racing team behind him and has already proven he can compete with the best drivers in the series.
Can Bell Pull Off the Comeback?
Bell’s championship hopes are certainly in danger, but counting him out would be a mistake.
With Martinsville on November 1 and the season finale at Homestead on November 8, there are still two opportunities to make something happen.
Could Christopher Bell deliver one of the biggest championship comebacks NASCAR has seen, or did Talladega cost him his shot at the title?
