Chase Briscoe is giving himself an excellent opportunity to finish the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season on a high note after capturing the pole for Sunday’s championship race at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

The Joe Gibbs Racing driver delivered an impressive qualifying performance Saturday, recording a lap of 32.396 seconds at an average speed of 166.687 mph. His lap was just enough to beat teammate Denny Hamlin, who qualified second by only 0.017 seconds.

Briscoe will now lead the field to the green flag for one of the biggest races of the season.

Briscoe Delivers When It Matters

Although Briscoe is no longer competing for the championship, that has not stopped him from making an impact during the season finale.

The No. 19 Toyota showed impressive speed throughout qualifying, and Briscoe took advantage of the opportunity to secure another important starting position.

Starting first at Homestead is particularly valuable because the track can create plenty of challenges throughout a long race. Drivers must manage their tires, find the right racing line and avoid mistakes as the competition intensifies.

Briscoe will have an opportunity to control the early portion of the race and potentially put himself in position to compete for another victory.

Championship Contenders Start Near the Front

Briscoe’s teammate Hamlin will start alongside him, creating an interesting front row for Sunday’s event.

The championship battle will also feature several drivers starting near the front.

Tyler Reddick qualified third, while championship leader Kyle Larson secured the fourth starting position. Austin Cindric will start fifth, followed by Christopher Bell in sixth.

Having all three remaining championship contenders inside the top six should make the opening stages particularly interesting.

Larson enters the finale with the championship advantage, while Hamlin and Bell will need strong performances to challenge him.

Can Briscoe Finish the Season With a Victory?

Briscoe has already accomplished plenty during the 2026 season, but winning the championship race would be another major achievement.

Even without a championship opportunity, he has plenty of motivation to finish the year with a trophy.

A victory at Homestead would give Briscoe another statement performance and provide momentum heading into the offseason.

The competition will be difficult, especially with several championship contenders starting close behind him. However, earning the pole puts Briscoe in an excellent position.

Now, he must turn Saturday’s qualifying speed into a complete race-day performance.

Sunday’s championship race could provide one final opportunity for Briscoe to remind everyone just how competitive the No. 19 team can be.
